JACKSON – Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves recommended retired Mississippi highway patrolman Ronnie Stewart as Sergeant at Arms for the Mississippi Senate, which approved the selection today.

Sergeant at Arms manages the security of the Senate Chamber and committee rooms. Mr. Stewart replaces Rick Hux, who retired last year.

“Mr. Stewart has extensive experience in law enforcement at both the local and statewide levels, and I appreciate his willingness to serve,” Lt. Gov. Reeves said.

Senate President Pro Tem Terry Burton nominated Mr. Stewart, and his senator, Sen. Albert Butler, seconded the nomination.

Previously, he served as the Drug Court Coordinator for the 22nd Circuit Court District, which includes Claiborne, Copiah and Jefferson counties. He is a retired state trooper and worked as master sergeant of driver services for the Department of Public Safety.

He and his wife Maggie have three children and four grandchildren and reside in Crystal Springs.
